The Initials

This is a music recommendation and it was added on Monday March 13, 2006 by John Keane. permanent url

Up and coming London-based band playing soul funk blues in the vein of Wilson Pickett and Maceo Parker and getting a growing following thanks to their gigging in and around London. Part of a growing UK scene that embraces the traditional values of rhythm and blues in music (see also Little Barrie).

Check them out on myspace and listen to two songs: Back of the Bus and Take Me Away. Critics have said ‘a bit like The Commitments’. The Initials think that’s a good thing—rock on.

And no, I haven’t just recommended them because I went to college with saxophonist Liam Curren and lead singer/guitarist Pete Walter: this is middle class white boy funk at its tightest. If you can’t dance to this, you’re dead.

These other recommendations are...possibly...related
